Aomori Cassis is a variety/registered regional product of blackcurrant produced in Aomori Prefecture, Japan. It is known for its pronounced aroma, refreshing sourness and high anthocyanin content. Since December 22, 2015 Aomori cassis has been registered under Japan's Geographical Indication (GI) protection scheme. It was the country's first officially protected regional food product.
