Description
Mycelium-based packaging uses fungal mycelium to bind lignocellulosic substrates into a biodegradable composite.
Technical
During incubation, the mycelium secretes β‑glucan and chitin, which cross‑link cellulose fibers to form a dense matrix. The resulting material can be molded at 60–80 °C and retains structural integrity up to 80 °C for short periods. Composting occurs within 30–45 days under industrial conditions.
