Sift together flour, baking soda and salt. Cream together shortening, sugar, brown sugar, egg and vanilla. Beat well. Blend dry ingredients into creamed mixture. Shape into balls using rounded teaspoonful for each. Roll balls in sugar and place on greased baking sheet. Bake at 375° for 10 minutes. Top each with a kiss and press down so cookie cracks on edges. Return to oven and bake 2 to 5 minutes longer until golden brown.
