Abstract
The integration of Internet of Things (IoT) technology into kitchens is revolutionizing food storage, preparation, and dining experiences. Smart kitchen furniture, including IoT-enabled refrigerators and cooking appliances, enhances food management, reduces waste, and promotes nutritional awareness. This systematic review examines peer-reviewed studies from January 2018 to September 2024, focusing on innovations in smart kitchen furniture and their impact on food management and consumption habits. Smart refrigerators leverage sensors and AI to monitor freshness, suggest recipes, automate grocery orders, and minimize waste. IoT cooking appliances enable precise temperature control, personalized nutrition optimization, and advanced features like 3D food printing for customized meals. Intelligent dining furniture integrates portion control systems, dietary tracking tools, and interactive features that enrich meal experiences. Despite these advancements, challenges such as data privacy concerns and cybersecurity risks remain significant. Regulatory frameworks are evolving to address these issues while supporting emerging technologies like smart packaging and blockchain-based food traceability. By incorporating sustainability principles such as energy efficiency and waste reduction, smart kitchen furniture has the potential to redefine domestic spaces and encourage environmentally conscious lifestyles. This review highlights the transformative role of these technologies in fostering sustainable consumption and improving health outcomes in modern households.
