Trends in sustainable eco-friendly packaging development in the agricultural food industry

Abstract

Global consumption of fresh fruits and vegetables has increased due to growing consumer interest in health-conscious eating behaviors and rising actual purchases. New packaging technology solutions are needed to extend the shelf life of fruits and vegetables while minimizing the packaging’s environmental impact to meet the EU’s Pack- aging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) requirements. By combining technology with enhanced materials, the future of food packaging is poised to be more efficient, environmentally responsible, and cost-effective. This paper investigates the trends in sustainable eco-friendly packaging development currently underway in the agricultural food industry of some developed countries.
