Smart food labelling for reusable packaging

Abstract

This dissertation aims to underscore the pivotal role of design and engineering in enhancing the food system by empowering consumers to make more informed choices through an innovative smart labelling solution. The research enabled a better understanding of the context of the areas ad dressed, demonstrating the need for new strategies in the food industry in response to the growing unsustainability of these systems. These issues, particularly evident in domestic environments, are partly due to the misinterpretation of food labels, leading to the premature disposal of products that are still safe for consumption.
