Abstract
Nanotechnology in the food sector offers innovative solutions for mitigating biological, chemical, and physical contaminants across the supply chain. This chapter explores its core principles and diverse applications in enhancing food safety, quality, and sustainability. Key technologies (nanosensors, nano-adsorbents, nano-coatings, and smart packaging) enable real-time detection, neutralization, and removal of contaminants. Nanomaterials like silver nanoparticles, quantum dots, carbon nanotubes, and nano-silica exhibit strong antimicrobial and toxin-adsorbing properties, while nano-encapsulation supports delivery of detoxifying agents and functional compounds.
