Abstract
The topic of novel foods is of growing interest in recent years as globalization and food exportations together with the need to feed an increasing population have pushed the industry and research of different countries to develop novel foods that satisfy consumer needs. All of these innovations in the feedstock, food ingredients, and technologies have resulted in additional choices to consumers with the potential to improve public health and productivity. However, the occurrence of “food neophobia” and the need for compliance with “food safety”, “properly labelling”, and “advantageous nutritious” have called for strengthening the regulations of novel foods around the world.
