Form oval patties about 1/2 inch thick from ground beef. (season with garlic powder - optional) Brown on both sides in frying pan. Remove patties and set aside. Add onion slices if using and lightly cook. Sprinkle onion soup mix over onions and stir to mix. Add flour to onions, soup mix and rendered fat. (if you use Xlean beef, you may have to add oil or butter) Stir to remove any flour lumps. Add about 1/4 cup of water and stir to preferred thickness...adding more water if needed. Put reserved meat patties in pan. Cover pan and cook on low until hot, stirring gravy as needed. Serve with mashed potatoes or rice if preferred and a veg or two.
